WHAT IS CANAECO?
The Nacional Chamber of Ecotourism, (CANAECO) is a non profit and private organization, that unites people and companies involved in ecotourism in our country.
The Objectives of CANAECO
Gather together people, associations, organizations, chambers and sympathetic entities that are involved in ecotourism activities.
Promote the development and reinforcement of ecotourism.
To act as the representative body of the ecotourism sector when facing national and international entities, both public and private.
Propose policies and defend the interests of the ecotourism sector when facing national and international entities, both public and private.
To form a consciousness of ecotourism as an instrument for the economic development and the conservation of the natural resources and the culture of the country.
Defend the natural and cultural heritage of the country
Encourage the use of the natural and cultural resources of the country in a sustainable manner.
Define and divulge the ethical and practical concepts that guarantee the sustainability of ecotourism, as well as safeguarding and defending its implementation
Encourage the education and training in order to guarantee the economical, socio cultural, and environmental sustainability of ecotourism for the members as well as for the community at large
Offer advice to the members
Be the source of information to the ecotourism sector
Reinforce the relationships within the ecotourism sector, through the interchange of information and the mutual support and creation of forums and discussion areas.
Create and catalyze technical, legal and economic assistance for the development of the ecotourism sector in Costa Rica, without excluding assistance to ecotourism activities for other countries that may request help in this matter.
Collaborate effectively with all those institutions, groups and associations, whether public or private, national or international, that work proactively in the conservation of the biodiversity and the well being of the communities.
WHY WE EXIST
ECOTOURISM:
Ecotourism is that segment that specializes in sustainable (responsible) tourism. It promotes and supports conservation of nature and the cultural values of the destinations, interpreting them for the client, encouraging the socio economic improvement of the local communities and continues to sensitize and satisfy the clients in an ethical manner,
